UPM 1.1 Released

01Sep06

It’s only taken me 7 months but I’ve finally managed to release version 1.1 of UPM. This release introduces one of the main features I’ve wanted since the start of this project, database sharing. This feature allows you to keep your password databases in sync across many machines, in my case my home and work machines.

Hey - I LOVE this program; have been using it since 1.0. However, it just stopped working, and I wonder if you have any ideas on what I can do?

I just upgraded to Leopard on my Mac, and when I copied the 1.0 version across, when I tried to open my database file I got this error: "input length must be multiple of 8 when decrypting with padded cipher." (The results I got from a google search on that phrase were, I have to admit, above my head.) I then went and found that you were at version 1.5 already (you've been busy!) and downloaded it. Now when I try to open my xml file, I get an error that says "Either your password is incorrect or this file isn't a UPM password database."

Needless to say, I'm positive I have the right password. Any thoughts? Any help would be muchly appreciated!
  • Hi Ceara. Glad you like UPM. Unfortunately I've not tested it on Leopard yet but I can't see any reason why it shouldn't work.

Have you installed the Java Cryptography Extension? AFAIK Leopard ships with Java 1.5 so if you go to this page http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5... download the "Java Cryptography Extension (JCE) Unlimited Strength Jurisdiction Policy Files 5.0". Extract the ZIP file that you get and copy the two JAR files in it to the folder '.\lib\security' of your JRE (overwriting the ones that are there).

If that doesn't work let me know. The database changed structure between versions 1.0 and 1.5 so maybe there's a problem with the code that upgrades the database.

You are awesome, thank you SO MUCH! That fixed it.

    Works great in Leopard, people!
  • Hi,

I've been using UPM for a year now. And after my upgrading to Leopard, it stopped working. I've already installed JCE, but it not fixed the problem.

Can you help me? Please? I really need to access my data on the UPM database.

    Sorry for bad english.
